Andaman and Nicobar Islands' Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) Port Blair organized a one week Foundation Course for first batch of 1st MBBS students. There are only a few medical colleges of the country which have started this course for 1st MBBS students at entry level as envisaged by the Medical Council of India. The purpose of this course is to help students adjust to a new environment & a vast Medical Curriculum and to sensitize them to Medical Profession & Physician's role in society, Overview of the MBBS course, Health needs of the country, Orientation to the Institute, Learning skills, and Basic life support.
The foundation Course commenced with an introductory address by Major General Rajendra P. Choubey (Retd.), Director, ANIIMS where he stressed on 5 D’s that is Devotion, Dedication, Determination, Dignity & Discipline. Prof Kavita Bhatnagar, HOD, Dept of Medical Education and Coordinator of this course delivered the Objectives of Foundation Course. It was a great team effort by the ANIIMS Faculty.
The success of the course was evident in students' enthusiastic participation throughout the course, student Feedback & amazing Reflections penned down by the students. According to student feedback, highlights of the course were Icebreaking & Group Dynamics sessions by Prof Kavita Bhatnagar, "Cadavers as Teachers" by Prof R Bhatnagar, HOD Anatomy, Visit to GB Pant Hospital conducted by Dr. MK Saha, Medical Superintendent, Basic Life Support by Prof. Gogna, HOD Anesthesia & his team and how to be successful in Medical Studies by Prof Deshpal, HOD ENT, e-Learning by Dr. Ritesh Mondal, Time Management by Dr. Ratnesh, Health needs of Country by Dr. Jahnavi and the Student Debate Competition. The course ended with a closing address & prize distribution by the Director & was attended by all the HODs.
