The Hon'ble Supreme Court on 28th April 2016 paved the way for National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admission into medical colleges for the academic year 2016-17. The Hon'ble Supreme Court directed the Ministry of Health & Family Wealth, Medical Council of India & CBSE to go ahead and conduct two-phase single common entrance test for admission in MBBS, BDS and PG courses through the NEET. The apex court said that the AIPMT, which is to take place on 01st May 2016, would be considered as first phase of the NEET & the second phase would be conducted on 24th July 2016.The Hon’ble Supreme Court turned down plea of state governments and private colleges that NEET cannot be imposed on them. With today’s SC order, all other examinations scheduled for next month stand scrapped. The final result of two phases of the NEET would be declared by 17 August 2016. "Those students who have not applied for AIPMT will be given opportunity to appear in second phase of the NEET examination schedule to be held on 24 July 2016,’’. The Hon’ble Supreme Court had on 27th April 2016, said that multiple tests must give way to the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) from the current (2016-17) session itself.
In view of this judgement, all aspirants of joining Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences, Port Blair (ANIIMS) for the academic year 2016-17 are advised to appear for NEET – II if they have not appeared for NEET – I (AIPMT) held on 1st May 2016. A merit list of candidates of A & N Islands who have qualified NEET I/II will be prepared and will form the basis for giving admission at ANIIMS. The qualifying marks for admission remain securing 50% marks for General Category and 40% for Reserved Category. The form for admission to ANIIMS is mandatory to be filled. Decision of conducting ANIPMT-2016 (Entrance exam for A & N Islands) will be taken after final decision of Supreme Court of India and Govt. of India.
